In these 6 days short trip you’ll experience the highlights of the Inca wonders surrounding of the Cusco City tour, Sacred Valley, easy 1 day trek Tour and the Classic Train tour to Machu Picchu, Truly a wonderful experience for those interested in this fascinating ancient culture!
This is easily the shortest of the treks and is best suited for those with a limited amount of time, but who would still like to do a bit of trekking before they see Machu Picchu.
Program Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Cusco
Reception in Cusco airport and transfer to the Hotel in Cusco. Rest and acclimatize as you are now at 3,400 mtrs above sea level. If you are feeling up to it..Optional Afternoon: Guided Visit to the City as well as the nearby Inca Ruins of Tambomachay, Puca Pucara, Quenko and Sacsaywaman. ( or this can be done on your free day 5th. Return to the Hotel Overnight. Hotel with Breakfast included.
Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas
At 8.20am meet at Sap Adventures office or transfer from your hotel at earlier time if coordinated. In a tourist bus, we travel from Cusco past Saqsaywaman & Tambomachay, over the mountains toward the Sacred Valley. We descend 1500 feet to the valley floor of the sacred Urubamba river and the village of Pisac where we will visit a traditional market and you can buy some local souveniers. We then drive up to explore the extensive ruins of Pisac with stunning views over the valley. On the guided walk into the Citadel of Pisac you can observe temples, residences, altars, channels, carvings, tunnels/caves and the famous Intihuatana “The hitching post of the Sun",
For those who would prefer to spend more time in the market instead of visiting the ruins, advise your guide so he can organise a time and place to pick you up when returning through the market.
We continue on to Urubamba where we stop for you to buy lunch. A further 30 mins drive takes us to Ollantaytambo surrounded by the sacred mountains, where we will again discover the magnificence of the Incan constructions, the amazing temple of the Sun, enormous blocks of rock perfectly carved and polished, stone water fountains, stairs, terraces and the beauty of the local people in their traditional dress, all surrounded by the sacred mountains and Valley of Patacancha and Willoq.
On our return, we quickly visit the famous church and archeological site in Chincheros, arriving to Cusco at about 6.30-7:00pm.Meals: BL
Day 3: Special trek to Moray – Salineras – Machu Picchu.
“This trek is ideal for those passengers who really want to be far in the middle of nowhere with only nature and a great way for you to enjoy a shorter trek that still includes Machu Picchu.
We will pick you up from your hotel at about 7am and we will take a transport to the little town of Maras, where we start our walking. Maras has nice colonial doors in its main street. In nearby Moray we will find circle terraces which used to be”the agriculture Inca laboratory”. The circles were used for the development of different strains of crops. Between the highest and lowest terraces there is a difference of up to 15 degrees. Although the difference between neighboring terraces is very small, it creates distinct microclimates that change growing conditions and allow the propagation of a huge variety of plants each with slightly different growth requirements.
From Moray we walk down for 5 hours through various plantations with a nice mountain views to the salt pans of Salineras. Here more than 5000 terraces are still in production and many families of Maras bring their salt to the market of Urubamba on mules.
After lunch our private vehicle will transport us to Ollantaytambo, at 17:30 pm we board our train to Aguas Calientes. 2 hours of spectacular train ride with amazing views at both sides of the valleys with impressive snow capped mountains, several Inca constructions can be seen from your windows and the Urubamba river near the train. After we arrive to Aguas Calientes our guide will take you to our Hostel where you are set for the night. There is an optional time to go to the hot springs to relax and good for muscles. At dinner time your guide will inform you all details about our plans for next morning to see Machu picchu and optimize your visit at this wonderful.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu - Cusco
Early wake up at 04:00 am and after breakfast we need to wait at the Bus Terminal to get our bus. The first Bus to Machu picchu depart at 5:30am (6 Hrs in Machu picchu)
After 30 minutes of bus ride we are at the entrance of Machu picchu ready for our guided visit, 3 hours guided tour with our expert tour guide ,he will show and walk with you throught the most remarkable sectors areas, temples, residences, altars and he will offer a relevant history and archaeology informations.
After the guided tour you will have extra time to explore by yourself; climbing to Machu picchu mountain, climbing the the sun gate “Inti-Punku”, walking to Inca Bridge.
Climbing to Huayna picchu; Tickets climb Huayna picchu mountain are limited (200 at 07:00 am & 200 at 11:00 am) its only given to tourists at the entrance so if this is one of your interest please coordinate with your tour guide. By 14:30 pm we board a bus down to Aguas Calientes to the Hostel for our Lunch.
At 16.45 pm we board our train return to Poroy-Cusco train station, our transfer will take you to your hotel, return time at 21.00 Hrs approx.
Day 5: Cusco Day free
Cusco Free Day to recuperate or Choose from a variety of one day activities that you can nominate on your arrival to Cusco. Rafting / Mountain Biking / Horse Riding ; Cusco University Inca Museum, Artist neiborhood of San Blas or just Shopping. Meals: B
Day 6: Bye to Cusco
Transfer to airport for your flight back to Lima. OR Extension flights or Transport to Puno -Lake Titicaca, the Amazon - Puerto Maldonado or Colca Canyon in Arequipa.
